RECRUITMENT
The U.S. Volunteers - Joint Service Command is a volunteer organization and while the mission set is of critical importance, the commitment is reasonable and balanced.
Units drill once a month and consists of a combination of classroom instruction and field training. Field training is designed to give our Volunteers the familiarity of being deployed to a natural disaster operation.
To serve in the USV-JSC, an applicant must:
-
be 18 years old or older.
-
Pass a criminal background check.
-
Must be able to carry out the physical duties of any emergency response or natural disaster operation, and

Prior service applicants should submit a DD-214 (or NGB-22 for National Guard personnel), showing an Honorable Discharge status.
We also accept current members of the Armed Forces Reserve, ROTC, or National Guard.
Volunteer Branch of Service
As a Joint Service Command, volunteers have the ability to join the Volunteer Reserve of their Prior-Service Branch (Marine Volunteer Reserve, Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and Navy Volunteer Reserve). For assemblies and operations, they can wear the duty and service uniforms of their respective branch, with U.S. Volunteer variations (branch tape, name plate, collar and lapel accoutrements).
Non-priors will automatically default to the Army Volunteer Reserve.
What To Expect
USV-JSC is authorized by Congress, as part of the Department of Defense / War Authorized Provider Partnership Provider (AP3) to wear the variated version of the uniform.
Upon acceptance, new Volunteers will need to undergo an online orientation to the organization. This includes a refresher on Customs and Courtesies, Drill and Ceremonies, and the other foundations of uniformed service.
The Oath will be administered by the unit commander and orders will be issued assigning the individual to an element within their unit. 5th Regional Command units conduct Regularly Scheduled Drills (RSDs) in person, on Saturday, where they will undergo training for military funerals and their emergency response METL.
